What equipment do I need to have? back to top No equipment of your own is needed, although I’d love to show you how to use any fitness gear you already have. You can get a great workout with hardly any equipment though - just a couple of dumbbells and a stability ball work great! What should I wear? back to top For your own enjoyment and safety wear comfortable, non-restrictive workout clothes and supportive running shoes. If we’re training out in the sun then a ball cap & sun block is a great idea, or wear layers in cold weather. And don’t forget your water! Should I eat before our session? back to top Eat a small meal or snack 1-2 hours before working out – you want energy to move but not so much that you’re sluggish or still digesting, which can cause cramps. If you need to eat closer to the session try a banana or some whole-grain crackers with cheese, but no more than a half hour before exercising. What can I expect in a session? back to top Sessions last about 60 minutes. In your first one we'll do a fitness assessment to see what your current fitness level is. Then we'll go over some exercises you can do to strengthen your weakest areas. Using the information from your assessment you'll receive a personalized workout. We'll make sure you understand the program and will be able to follow it at home on your own in between our scheduled training sessions. Why should I hire a personal trainer? back to top People hire personal trainers for a number of reasons. Some of them are: Motivation: This is probably the number one reason someone hires a personal trainer. When you have someone to be accountable to, you are more likely to stick to an exercise program. You also work out harder when someone is watching and encouraging you. Personal trainers not only work as a physical coach, they can also be educators, role models and confidants. Program Design: You’re not sure which exercises you should be doing to reach your goals. You’ve tried doing the same workout as your boyfriend but don’t really want to look like him, do you? A personalized program will help you reach your goals faster, and you’ll enjoy it more as we will work together to find exercise you actually like doing! If you already exercise on a regular basis, a personal trainer can help you break through your plateau, and show you new ways to exercise to keep you from getting bored.
Safety: Some people wake up one morning and decide they’re getting in shape today, no matter what! They overdo it, or lift a weight improperly and end up with strained or pulled muscles. A trainer will show you how to exercise safely and effectively. Special events: There’s nothing like a wedding, vacation or high school reunion to make you want to get in shape! A trainer can help you set realistic goals to get you in the best shape possible in time for these events.
